    5. At angles of incidence other than normal, the phase thickness of the layer is reduced, so that for a given layer thickness the wavelength corresponding to the minimum becomes shorter. The optical admittance appropriate to the angle of incidence and the plane of polarization should also be used in calcu- lating the reflectance. Figure 4.18 indicates the way in which the reflectance of a single layer of magnesium fluoride on a substrate of index 1.52 can be expected to vary with angle of incidence.
